As M:I-3 changes filmmakers and composers for a third time, this chapter finds our hero Ethan Hunt (producer and actor Tom Cruise) trying to get back to his roots, in a process that will become the matrix from which the rest of the series will grow. Academy Award®-winning composer (and frequent Abrams collaborator) Giacchino takes on the franchise and finds the score lovingly returning to the brassy, bombastic sensibilities of Lalo Schifrin. After the more serious, modern scores of the previous films, Giacchino brings some of the larger-than-life energy of his previous superhero work (Sky High, The Incredibles) to the IMF, and the series is all the better for it.
